Rastas & Religious Freedom

Q-

I understand there was case this year where a Rastafarian man, a user of cannabis, got of receiving a sentence as he successfully argued that cannabis use was part of the rastafarian culture. Are you aware of this case and if so could you send me information on this case and/or direct me to a web site/journal with this case history ?

I ask this question from a personnel policy perspective as a Human Resources Practitioner.

Re the Rastafarian claiming religious exemption from cannabis laws, I suggest you consult the news cuttings library at http://www.mapinc.org. They collect and catalog press cuttings on drugs issues from around the world, and if the case was covered in the UK (or US) press, they would be pretty sure to have the article, or articles, on file.

The case was not one in which we were professionally involved.
