Driving (Methadone)
Q
-
Seven
or eight years ago I informed the Driver and Vehicle
Licensing Centre at Swansea, that I had a drug problem,
as such they asked me to return my license which I did,
( This was not a disqualification).
The last few years I have been successfully maintained
on a methadone prescription from my GP, so could you
please advise me whether or not I can return to driving
while I am still on medication.

You
can certainly apply to the DVLC for your licence to
be reissued, and insist that they justify any decision
not to do so. You may be able to challenge any such
decision in the civil courts via judicial review. I
would therefore advise you to contact a solicitor.
IDMU
has limited data on the driving records of methadone
users, and could provide expert evidence for any such
hearing if formally instructed.
